part 2 of Emily & Andy’s wedding

Andy was my first friend and when moved to York in the fall of 2011. He was also my first flatmate and a fantastic one at that and we moved to the next flat together as well. He eventually moved to Leeds for work and I eventually moved back to Edinburgh but we’ve stayed in touch over the years even as I’ve floated around. On a trip back to Edinburgh over New Years I was fortunate that Andy & Emily were also visiting and that’s when I met her for the first time. I was delighted Andy had found such a caring, funny and lovely person.

Fast forward to August 9th and the big day. I’m always delighted to photograph friends weddings because you get to spend more time with them as the photographer than the other guests and this always makes me feel a bit special. I started with a few photos of Andy getting ready and they were relaxed and having a good time. I must say Andy I’ve always enjoyed Andy’s banter and it was great catching up with him whilst finishing getting ready and we had some good laughs as a result.

I headed over to Emily and she was absolutely full of joy. Emily was perhaps the happiest bride I’ve encountered and it really makes my job much easier as well as simply being uplifting to be around. She was in her dress and ready to go and I was able to get a couple of bridal portraits and a few moments with her dad before heading over to the Baltic Contemporary Art Gallery.

The ceremony was short and sweet with some brilliant readings by some of their closest friends. Soon they were getting hugs and congratulations from their guests. We went outside for some quick group photos (I always appreciate doing less and was delighted they didn’t want many). We snapped some couples photos outside because the weather was especially unpredictable that day.

Before I knew it the speeches were starting and I was delighted to see Emily giving the first speech. I often wonder why more brides don’t speak and was delighted that she bucked tradition. All the speeches were fab and soon we enjoyed a hog roast. The staff turned the room around and soon the dancing began. I loved watching them dance and sing together on the dance floor. The guests followed right along and it was an active dance floor and quite a lively fun loving crowd. We went outside near the end for some last photos on the Millenium footbridge before coming inside for an epic last dance. Thrilled to be a part of their special day and look forward to seeing them in the future!

When I first met Roxana & Simone we got off to a rocky start and unlikely beginning as friends. We were on a plane from Rome to Edinburgh and she was sitting next me and said “Will you turn your phone off!!” as we were parked on the runway. I have a friend who is quite a nervous flyer and I suspected Roxana (I didn’t know her name yet) was as well. I turned off my phone and said “so you enjoy flying?” “No!” “I’m surprised,” I said. She laughed and I had a really nice conversation with her and Simone on our way to Edinburgh. I’ve since sent her photos of pilots sitting next to me on their phone while the plane is taking off but she doesn’t seem to appreciate it. Whatever your feelings about phones being used on planes the three of us became good friends due to our appreciation for photos and visuals in general.

Fast forward a few years and I had an amazing time photographing their wedding at the beautiful Prestonfield House in Edinburgh. Everyone was relaxed and in a great mood, it provided ample moments to photograph. It was a beautiful autumn day and the two of them were lots of fun and always laughing. It wasn’t your standard wedding and we got to take some silly photos as well I rather appreciated. Hopefully, the photos tell the story.
